School Recorders in Maple and Pearwood

school descant/soprano, treble/alto & tenor

The school series is designed to meet the needs of those who are starting out on the recorder for the first time or those who, having already played a plastic recorder, desire the warmer, stronger tone than only wood can give. All these models have an open voicing which gives them a warm woody tone. If you are looking for a more reedy tone, consider instruments from the conservatoire range.

  • Academy Recorders in Pearwood, Boxwood and Rosewood

academy rosewood (left), boxwood (centre) & pearwood (right) trebles/altos

The academy series offers a larger range of woods than the school series although, in many ways, there are strong similarities between the two models. We have chosen the same open voicing but, by including instruments made of boxwood and rosewood, you get the benefits of extra durability and a stronger tone.

  • descant in two sections
  • treble and tenor in three sections

  • tenor & treble can be fitted with double keys

  • Knick tenor head

Those who have shorter arms or have problems with articulation of the wrist should consider conversion of the head on their tenor recorder as shown in the photograph on the left. By altering the angle of the recorder's body and bringing the bottom holes closer to the player's mouth this modification increases player comfort. We can retrospectively modify all makes of wooden tenor recorder.
